Oman, Myanmar Sign Air Services
Agreement
Muscat, 2 November 2026 (ONA) — The
Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar today signed an air
services agreement aimed to regulate air transport between the two countries
and enhance cooperation in the civil aviation sector. The agreement also seeks
to support the expansion of air connectivity networks and open up new avenues
for cooperation in the fields of transport and air services.
The agreement was signed by Eng.
Naif bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and U Zaw
Zaw, Director General of the Department of Civil Aviation of Myanmar.
The agreement was in pursuance of
Oman’s ongoing efforts to expand its network of air transport agreements
globally, enhance its presence within the international aviation system and
establish regulatory and operational frameworks necessary to keep pace with
the growth and development of the air transport sector.
The agreement comprises 26 articles,
in addition to an annex on air routes. It covers
various economic, regulatory and operational aspects related to air transport
services—including frameworks that allow designated national airlines to operate passenger and cargo flights in accordance with the
agreed-upon terms and regulations. It also generates greater opportunities for code-sharing on joint flights in a manner that expands travel
options for passengers, promotes operational efficiency and provides greater
prospects for commercial cooperation between the airlines of both nations.
The agreement constitutes a
significant step toward in consolidating Oman-Myanmar ties in the field of
civil aviation, notably by devising a legal and regulatory framework that
governs air transport rights, supports the development of services and
maximizes the use of opportunities available to both sides.
Oman is pressing ahead with efforts
to expand its network of air transport relations. It currently maintains
bilateral air transport agreements with 135 countries. This underscores Oman’s
commitment to leverage international expertise, provide regulatory frameworks for the
civil aviation sector and facilitate the growth of airline services.
